The paintings in this series are my emotional response to operatic music that deeply resonates with me and which I performed as a professional classical singer.
This painting is my response to Dido’s aria. ‘When I am laid in earth,’ from Purcell’s opera, Dido and Aeneas.
A subdued composition in faded golds and greys, where low-set forms and gentle horizontal drift echo Dido’s quiet acceptance of death.
