The paintings in this series are my emotional response to operatic music that deeply resonates with me and which I performed as a professional classical singer.
This painting is my response to the orchestral prelude and the appearance of the Rhinemaidens in Scene 1 of Wagner’s opera, Das Rheingold, from Der Ring des Nibelungen.
This painting captures the turbulent, shifting depths of the Rhine and the playful yet chaotic energy of the Rhinemaidens. It visualises the moment Wagner’s orchestral swell crests, blending the watery mystery of the river with the first, fleeting glimpses of the gold’s intoxicating glow.
